A life of service, ready to serve

My Experiences

I retired as a Navy Master Chief (E9) after 25 years of active duty.  I was stationed at Andrews AFB, NAS Oceana, North Island, Point Mugu; in Spain and Puerto Rico; onboard carriers Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt during both Gulf Wars.  I worked the flightdeck/flightline; signed aircraft safe for flight; was leading Senior Chief for over 300 on a carrier; and the Command Master Chief with over 400 Sailors and Marine Corps instructors and 19,000 students.

Two governors have appointed me to the Virginia Board of Veterans Services.

And during the 2019 Legislative Session, I served as Legislative Aide to Delegate Convirs-Fowler, assisting her with her legislative agenda, interacting with and assisting constituents with any concerns they needed addressed, and interacting with stakeholders who had thoughts about legislation.

Who I am

I am the youngest of four children. I was raised in Cleveland during the tumultuous 1960s race riots.  As a teenager I lived in the Cleveland suburbs, experiencing the nastiness of others as a mixed-race child using music to break barriers.  At 16, my mother and I moved to Philadelphia where I graduated from high school.  I completed a BS in Computer Information Systems, Cum Laude, and an AS in Paralegal Studies, Summa Cum Laude.

After retiring from a 25-year career in the Navy, I decided to make Virginia Beach my home.  I knew I needed to give back to a community that has given me so much, so I volunteered with numerous community service organizations.

I was Chapter Chaplain, Vice-Chair Service for Veterans, and emcee of the annual Flag Day Celebration with Daughters of the American Revolution.  I volunteered as a tutor at Woodstock and Centerville Elementary Schools and at Brandon Middle School.  I am a choir member, lector, and former catechist at my church. I volunteer helping prepare taxes for any community members who need my services.  And I am a longtime volunteer and officer in the Virginia Beach Democratic Party.
